| | The Little Prince (intensive reading)
A short extract from Chapter 2 of ´The Little Prince´ with a vocabulary exercise and comprehension questions. Attention is paid to synonyms. This is an introduction to paraphrase and to literary English. In some countries, such as Japan, stress is placed on TOEIC (business English) and students struggle to understand literature. The best introduction to literature, in my opinion, is short extracts from actual texts, not graded readers. At 16 I spent an hour, in German class, ploughing through the first page of Im Westen Nichts Neues (All Quiet on the Western Front), and it was a hard slog, but it was worthwhile.
