Sinking Ice Lesson Plan
Water expands when it freezes. What if it contracted like other matter? Get students to work in groups to list all the changes in the world that would occur if this were true. This is realistic practice of the conditional tenses that leads to much discussion. Would the sea level rise or drop? For older students studying science.

Here is a handout with useful resources for students to help them with their class presentations. Many of the websites listed come from Mark Powell, who has written 2 excellent books for English students on giving presentations. You may need to change the fonts in order for everything to fit onto 1 page.

This list of idioms appeared in "The English Teaching Forum," but I took the liberty of making an exercise out of it and adding a picture. I used the font Garamond, but you may change this to ensure that everything fits onto one page.

Colloquialisms 2
The list of common colloquial expressions came from an old British coursebook, but I made it into an exercise that is challenging, but not impossible for upper-intermediate and advanced learners. Here students have to match the questions with replies.
