Surprising Laws and Customs: Practice with "used to be" and "still" / "anymore"
Students practice using "it used to be..." while reading some surprising rules/laws aloud. Other students practice using "still" and "anymore" by guessing if the rules/laws are still true or not true anymore. To the best of my knowledge all the information was at one time true.

Pronouns and Possessive Adjectives with Hansel and Gretel
Fill in the blanks in Hansel and Gretel (this version written especially for non-native English speakers) by choosing either the object pronoun, the subject pronoun or the possessive adjective. Difficult at first, but students generally enjoy this activity and are much more confident about using pronouns/possessive adjectives by the end.

Practice with the Progressive/Continuous Tenses
Basic practice rewriting sentences in each of the progressive/continuous tenses. Dangerously close to rote learning (a very unpopular idea, but sometimes a little bit is necessary) ;-)

Questions and Answers with the Present Perfect
Students use the words provided to write questions and both positive and negative answers in the present perfect. A good initial practice because it does not require students to think about the information, only the grammar.
