Federico Garca Lorca ( Dramatist, poet, theatre director, citizen of the world)

Farewell

If I die,
leave the balcony open.

The little boy is eating oranges.
(From my balcony I can see him.)

The reaper is harvesting the wheat.
(From my balcony I can hear him.)

If I die,
leave the balcony open!

Leonard Cohen, Canadian singer, poet, songwriter  translated Garcia Lorcas Pequeo vals viens

Other poems by Gustavo Adolfo Becquer, a Spanish romantic poet:

Rhyme XXI

What is poetry?, you say
As you fix my eyes with yours of blue.
What is poetry!...You ask me that?
Poetry...It is you!

Rhyme XXIII

For a glance: the world;
For a smile: the heavens;
For a kiss...I don t know
What I d give for a kiss!

Rhyme XXXVIII

Sighs are air and go to the air.
Tears are water and go to the sea.
Tell me woman: When love is forgotten,
Do you know where it goes?

@ gilorit - You did!?!?!??!?!?! Ahhhh, i m getting excited about it! When i read on the cover that it was a number 1 best seller, i developed aversion for it. As i do for anything that is a bestseller. Like, ahhh, it must be sth to appeal to the majority, not genuine. But, oh my, when i saw that it was a love letter/tribute to literature and imagination ... ahhhh, my heart was taken by it. Ever since i read it, i ve been recommending it to everyone! Ahhhhh, orit, you ve made my day!

The Weeping
I have shut my windows.
I do not want to hear the weeping.
But from behind the grey walls.
Nothing is heard but the weeping.

There are few angels that sing.
There are few dogs that bark.
A thousand violins fit in the palm of the hand.
But the weeping is an immense angel.
The weeping is an immense dog.
The weeping is an immense violin.
Tears strangle the wind.
Nothing is heard but the weeping.

It took me a while to get into it. It is so wonderfully written - sure not the best sellers type...
It is still near my bed, eventhogh I finished reading it in the beginning of summer...
