possibility vs probability: teacher feeling terrible

hi everyone, I have this problem with possibility and probability. I made some research on the net about the use of may, might and could
I came up with the conclusion that may and might are used to express probability and could can be used for possibility. I hate myself because I taught this to my pupils. but I had a girl who has a private tutor who told her that the 3 of them express possibility. he s right and I m not wrong but I have already put this in the test and I didn t accept the answer (may/might= possibility). I have a guilty conscience now. I don t know what to do! they have already had their marks but my conscience keeps aching! because I m not sure of what I taught them anymore. I feel like I have taught them something wrong and this makes me feel terrible. what can I do to mend this. Cry

As long as you graded the test according to what you taught them--no big worries.   I would consider clatrifying it to them though.

I would tell the students you made a mistake. I think it s good for kids to learn that adults are fallible and that they can admit when they are wrong - it sets a good example for the kids. Everyone makes mistakes - I tell my students that is why I love the English language - it s so fascinating and complex that even a native speaker gets it wrong!

I wouldn t lose sleep over it though - like I said, everyone makes mistakes. I believe teaching is as much about learning as it is about imparting knowledge. You ll never make that mistake again!
