Hi!!  I have a problem trying to figure out this expression:

....if you are part of a small family, you�re the number one banana. What does it refer to? I have tried to look it up but can�t find anything. Any idea???

lol... I haven�t heard that expression in years. It basically means you are the best.

I am guessing here that it comes from the fact that bananas are so good for you. Although, I honestly can�t say where it comes from.

The sentence might imply that the person is silly or crazy.

I have never heard that expression only a dirivitive: "top banana" �in which case it would be as Zora says
