Apodo

This is in fact a seventeenth century word for the flamboyant showing off, by a gentleman, of his embroidered silk vest.
Vesthibitionism (noun):  vest a garment + hibitionism (opps. inhibitionism)

Usage:
Look at him - he s an utter vesthibitionist . Lady Bonnington-Smythe, 1689, as she pointed at her cousin s new vest.
Vestibitionism is rife among the youth of today. Fred Nerk, 1687 .

Holland prides itself on its vesthibitionism (for those of you who didn t know, I m Dutch).
Since it is kind of hard to say you pride yourself on window/portal prostitution, the term vesthibitionism was coined in the early 80 s in several tourism brochures and travel guides.
Most of you were close though...It is indeed a word comprised of several elements; the before mentioned vestibule as the traditional locale for the ladies to sit and tempt customers, the obvious exhibitionism involved in sitting behind the window in their underwear, add to that the inhibitions they are trying to make the customers overcome and there you go...a perfect word to tell your grandma what kept you busy while visiting Amsterdam without actually saying anything...

Actually I think it s those people who can t pronounce w properly but say it as v , but can t bear to be told and keep showing off their horrible pronunciation!
