Role-Play

Today was a very good teaching day....why because I ended up laughing my
bloody head off.
Please let me explain to you.
First I told my students from the 10th grade to look at the Unit and
lesson on page 36.
Here is the Role-Play conversation example.
Doctor: What seems to be the problem?
Patient: I have a stomachache.
Doctor: How long have you had it?
Patient: Since Tuesday.
Doctor: When did it start?
Patient: It started in the evening.
Doctor I suggest that you try to improve your diet/Why dont you try a low-fat
diet?
Patient: I guess I could try that thank you Doctor.
Now I asked my students to look at the dialogue of the conversation and then to
change some words like stomachache, Since Tuesday, evening, I suggest that you try to improve
your diet.
Be creative and use your imaginations I said to them well they didnt let me down; here is one of four
very funny examples from my creative and imaginative students.
Doctor: Hi what seems to be the problem Mr. Bones?
Patient Well Doctor I have a pain in my c*ck.
Doctor: How long have you had this pain MR. Bones?
Patient: Since last weekend.
Doctor: When did the pain start?
Patient: It started from masturbation Doctor.
Doctor: Try putting this cream on it, it will help with the swelling.
Patient: Yes Doctor I will try it when I get home thank you.
As you can imagine when I was listening to this I just looked at the two
students and cracked up.
I had Doctors and Patients using Viagra, boobs getting bigger.......
I went home on my motobike with my face having a big grin and smile from thinking
about the lesson early that day.
I just wanted to share this with some of the teachers here that would appreciate
it and understand that my students are not frightened to exspress themselfs in front of the classroom or the teacher.

Well the madlib dialogue or story doesn t have to contain adult vocabulary to be funny. Have you ever tried to walk healthily or sing strictly? We were practising adverb formation and we had a great fun.
Just try to mime "eat jealously" and you will se what I mean...

It sounds just the sort of dialogues I would get from my young adults. No matter how many times you tell them to keep it clean, there is always someone!
Who are we to say they can t use subjects that obviously appeal to them...each generation likes to shock and being from the sixties I guess I did also.
Do you know there was a time when the word DUDE was not accepted?
Got to love the way language changes! Keeps us learning!

The other day my sts speaking about the pharmacy goods composed a
dialogue about the condoms they bought to be on the safe side.
My sts also are not frightned to express themselves. But I
honestly don t know if it is good or not???!!! |

I worked with senior high school students for the first time this year and, of course, they liked to shock and use "nasty language". Even though I was wondering if I should stop that at first, (like you, savvika), I then realised it was the perfect opportunity to let them express thei fears, anger, bewilderment and questions about these things. Finally, I tried to "beautify" their vocabulary, with the help of those students who opposed to the whole thing. So, everybody was happy in the end and nobody was offended! |

Oh my... I am the mother of 2 teenagers and I will be furious if their English teachers allowed that kind of role play during class, maybe when they are in university, but even then I think it is just bad taste..... |

@ Moravc your question Have you ever tried to walk healthily or sing strictly?I walk healthy everyday and sing strictly when it s needed. @ Elderberrywine I didn t exspect anything different from you.
And @ Anny If these two students was yours I would ask you the question why bring them up to say such things!!!
