regarding size vs compression in pictures

Ive used the last 3 hours re-sizing and compressing until Im blue in the face!!!

My newest WS has almost gotten the better of me.
It was too big - so I re-sized and compressed, and re-sized again, and compressed!
I finally got it down under 300 - but Im not sure what I did!!!  (duh me!)

Any thoughts on whats best?
To re-size or to compress the picture????
I am pixel challenged  - to say the least!!

Compression is : when you are resizing all you are doing is changing how big it LOOKS not how big it IS.
And thats as far as my knowledge goes :-)

Dear Libertybelle,

When that happens to me, I check if the picture is jpeg or something similar. If not, I paste it in paint and save it in that format. Some of the other options that you have when saving are really very heavy. Then, when they are ready on the word document, I click on it, choose compress the picture (or something like that) and select the option for the web or e-mail. then save the document with a different name and get the information about its size.
