ESL short stories for beginners

Hello!

Im an English teacher in Portugal and I really need your help. I use to teach the story " The frog family" to my students but its always the same. Does anyone know another good story concerning the theme? My students are 6 to 9 years old.

Thanks a million. Congratulations to all the members of this site. All your work is wonderful! Thanks for sharing and for being so kind!

I dont teach children so not familiar with stories you mention. Do you want any interesting stories for children or do they need to be on a particular theme?

Ive worked with "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" and they simply loved it. Anyway, you can enlarge any story to fit in the topic you want to work with!
What worked out really good for me was to organize some outing to the nearest bookshop, where the children could choose the stories they most liked (they only looked at the pictures on them) to work throughout the year. We worked with "The Very Bad Monster", "Winnie the Witch" and Chicken Run." Perhaps you can arrange a visit to the nearest bookshop and let them choose one book out of -lets say- five of them previously chosen by you, where you can control the topics to work with.
There are many stories you can work with, perhaps, because of their age, they can work with a sort of Revolting Rhyme, which are different versions of well known children stories.
Even better, you can choose the stories according to the likes of the students!
Hope these ideas are useful!

Have you tried the books from Julia Donaldson. The Gruffalo etc. They are so fantastic and she has one for nearly every theme. Put Gruffalo into google and see what I mean. I use them all the time even for older kids.
Greetings from freezing Germany.   Yeti xx
