I�ve used a similar game as an ice breaker with adults (it really helps me remember their names quickly too). 
 
To help them remember the items and to add some fun to the game, I tell them they have to follow the alphabet i.e.:
 
"My name is Albert.  Terry brought an apple to class.  Bob brought a book, Sarah brought a candle, and I brought my derby to class."
 
It�s alot of fun when students get to letters like "Q" and "J"--they tend to get real creative.
