Dear colleagues
Which is correct," The evening was spent play and talking" or " The evening was spent to play and talk"? And why?
Thank you so much

it sounds better playing and talking. we spent the night playing and talking. the night was spent playing and talking. I will try to find the grammar name of this and post later.

I agree with Felipe!

I think its past progressive tense. With passive voice

No, this isnt a progressive tense. "Playing" and "talking" here are being used as participles telling how the evening was spent, so I think that makes them adverbs.

The evening was spent playing and talking. The verb spend is always followed by a gerund.

You need to use playing and talking. And it is not a progressive tense, it is a gerund
