Good morning to you all, I am currently teaching in the Sultanate of Oman and my school asked me to plan an open day for The English language Department. I have some ideas in my mind like doing a model lesson plan and doing a presentation competition as well as a story telling competition. Furthermore, I would like to enrich my plan for this exceptional day. So if you have planned such a day or if you have any valuable ideas, please suggest to me. Thank you very much indeed. |

You could try an "English casino." You organise tables where students from 2 to 6 in number can play different types of games related to ESL. For example, 1 table can do "homophone snap" with cards (weight, wait, eight, ate, ewe, you, etc.) You can have a table for phrasal verb bingo, or other types of bingo, question games (famous people, what am I? What is my job? etc.) and you can also do a giant quiz with different teams (each team writes 1 or 2 questions themselves). I did this myself with both adults and children during the summer camps we used to run a few years back and they always went down rather well. It�s a way to get the students to get to know each other and start forming bonds. We found it quite effective. |
