In my case the cons of being a teacher is the lack of respect I get from people outside of my community. Some people think that I m paid a lot of money (yeah right) for little work. Some parents are second-guessing teachers evaluations and think the problem is always the school, never their child.
Pros: well, I d say that it s incredible to see a learner change before my very eyes. Parents are amazed they they see their child take their first step as toddlers. I get to see those kids put their "brain" to all kinds of challenges and take their first second-language steps, which is quite awesome.

Points for argument:

relaible profession - teachers will always be needed
holidays - never have to worry about being in work on a public holiday
hours - steady enough, don t really change
rewarding- great to see others learn

attitudes - people tend to think teachers are over paid, which is not the case
you re never finished work when you re finished - there s always correction, planning etc..
emotionally draining at times

money too much/little?
too much responsiblity/ influence over students
problem children hard to control

its up to the students whether or not  they think them positive/negative.

Interestingly, I did this debate with children before, and it was funny some of teh things they said

Teachers get to punish people and make them do punishment!!

and

Teaching is horrible because you re stuck in school forever!!

pros: teaching teaches you self control!! (with parents! non motivated colleagues!! and of course the head of school!!!!!!)
knowing that you might make a difference for some kids
canteen is good at my schoolLOL

cons: it depends where you are, but for me as no one wants to stay at that school the teachers come and go every yearThumbs Down

Ivona, stop playing around and making us laugh. Wink

Pros:
1-The joy of teaching ( I love and enjoy my job.)
         2- Enjoying pleasant students
         3- Helping those in need
4- Summar vacation and spring break

Cons:
 1- Achievement test score pressure
2- Class load (I have personally had 120 students in a year.)
3- Preparations for a variety of classes (Right now I have four different classes that I have to prepare for and teach.)
4- Pay in comparison to other professions

Ahhhhhhhhh teaching would be so wonderful if there were NO STUDENTS! LOL

But besides that:

We often have/are
noisy kids
stressed parents
curriculums that are out-of-date
small classrooms
too many students in one class
lousy books
are underpaid
are unappreciated
work in dangerous areas
violence
frustrated kids
no funding

We are:
independent
loving
caring
trying to make a difference
trying to change lives
hoping for a better future
the best judge of characters
in better contact with the younger generations
clever and intelligent
well read
flexable
creative
talented
knowledgeable
and just down right nice people who care.

You are so right people!!!

While I am reading your posts I am wondering.... (and wandering too!!!!LOL) Are we from far away  countries and so different cultures??? It seems to me that I am talking with my next-door neighbour... the fellow teacher at my own school...Big smile

I must say that I am so in agreement with all of you!!!!
I have one more cons: school is where you get ill...!!Dead I am in bed with a terrible flu!!! Don t worry !!! It s the common one!!!! Lucky me!!! No correcting papers or preparing lessons this weekend!!! Evil Smile  Just staying in bed with a terrible headache, a heap of tissues falling off my night table and a collection of pills!!!CryConfused

But all the same, I would rather  being up and with a heap of tests instead of tissues.... I believe that teaching is everything... It is what I love doing... I wouldn t be able to do anything else.... I wouldn t know how, or what...ApproveErmm  EDIT:  And I teach 12 courses.... 289 students altogetherClown

Well... time for a pill, and for a tissue.... Pig

See you!!!! Love you!!!!

Cons: underpaid and often overworked

Pros: helping to shape future citizens

Students keep you young- especially younger ones and teenagers: their

enthusiasm for life and the unexpected rubs off.

Teaching teaches you- you learn so much from everything that you teach.

Teachers are open-minded, creative, well read, intelligent and great judges of character. They cant fool us.

Finally  three  of my favourite quotes:

A good teacher is like a candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others.  ~Author Unknown

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.  ~Henry Brooks Adams

Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions.  ~Author Unknown
