The Gruffalo - introduction to past tense
This is a worksheet based on The Gruffalo. After I have read the story with them and worked on the song (The Gruffalo song), I use this worksheet to make students aware of the past simple: regular and irregular verbs.
First, you go throught the vocabulary in the box (house, good, wood,...) and listen to the first part of the story (the meeting of the mouse and the fox. Students have to listen and fill the gaps.
After that, you continue ask them to read the text and find the past tense of the verbs in the table (exercise 2.a). In exercise 2.b they have to use their previous knowledge to find the infinitive of the verbs in the table. Thus, they will deduce how the past simple is formed.
Finally, let�s have fun a cooler: the irregular verbs rap (link included in the worksheet).
