Hello, I work in a school with children from 3 to 14 years old. We are three English teachers and wanted to make English much more present. I thought that perhaps you have tried something similar and could tell me some ideas that worked for you, or just ideas that you have in mind.

Goodness - where to start.
Well, you ought to think back first to what YOU thought was fun when you were young.
Otherwise kids love:
songs
songs and movement
puzzles
chanting
board games
memory games
classroom games
short stories
short fun films
drama and sketches
guessing games
good worksheets with images
coloring pages with short stories
Word searchs
for the older kids
teen topics
being young
short books
romance
photos and writing stories
film and music stars
teen problems and how to solve them.
These are just a few ideas I use.
I sure hope you don �t have to teach the smaller kids with your teens!

I�ve seen in some language centres they create things such as a "break area" or an area to play/enjoy ... , for instance, a room or just a corner somewhere, with magazines, newspapers, games which students can use when they finish their lesson. Imagine you are a teenager who have a lesson from 11 to 12, well, you can stay in the centre until, imagine, 1, just reading a book or a magazine, or playing any table-game with other students.
Another good idea i�ve seen somewhere is to create activities together, such as the saturday-breakfast. This is usually for adults, but i suppose it can also be used with children. You gather together every saturday to have breakfast and to talk. This is a good way to create a real english atmosphere.
Maybe you can also programme other activities such as trips or just a going-out to the park or things like that, but i�m just improvising now.

What about some type of reading program? ie the older kids read stories in english to the younger ones for 30 minutes a week. You could "teach" the older kids how to read a book to others for enjoyment... ie how to point out pictures along the way and talk about what might happen etc. how to use expression to make the story interesting...
The older kids get a boost of being looked up to by the younger ones (as well as practising their oral English skills) and the younger ones would enjoy time with the older ones. It depends though on your access to good colourful and interesting books in English...

We once turned our whole school into an English city with shops.
2-3 kids had a store with things to sell.
They spoke English buying lunches, and other stuff the kids brought from home.
There were gym lessons, the older kids taught the younger ones and all kinds of things.

I think even just having signs up in English really makes a difference - I �ve noticed them a lot at the school I �ve been working at recently.
