							| it s the first time I have ever heard about the idea of teaching numbers through reading texts. there are a loads of things you should teach in a reading text. how could you deal with that? this is as if  throwing children into the ocean for a small drop of water. | 24 Jul 2009

							| Using a story to teach numbers might be a different way than using a vocabulary sheet and have students learn the words by heart. Games are a good way to practice them also. If you go on a website such as www.amazon.com you might find books that could help you. You might have to really look around because most books about numbers are not necessarily targeted for the age group you are looking for.  | 24 Jul 2009

							| Cardinal numbers: try youtube number chants / songs...
fun facts - history events about your country, travelling - bus number xxx

 Ordinal numbers:
easy texts about a trip - first day, second day...
description of a block of flats (+ present / past continuous / simple)
 - what was the lady on the twentieth floor doing when the fire began...

 etc...
at first do not use stories... try JOKES / SKETCHES...
I suppose your ss are complete beginners... so this story is not so easy but... lovely:
 http://www.britishcouncil.org/kids-stories-numbers-popup.htm
 games:
 http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/numbertime/games/index.shtml

When your ss learn the numbers, try some number tricks (google it...)
Think about one number, add ...., substract .... and the result is.....

							| Hi I do lots of TPR activities with my children - for example We play Bingo Games with numbers - students write down 6 numbers out of 10 ( for Numbers from 1-10) and 12 numbers for numbers from 1-20. Then I call a number in random and if they have this number they circle it . When they have circled all their numbers they call BiINGO and win the game. Another activities are chants about numbers and they show the numbers with fingers while saying the chant, you may play a Guessing game - how many.......have I got behind my back@, then the children alone can ask, WSs with numbers and colours ......I have no time now because I must leave for work but if you are iterested PM me or email me Have a nice day Petya   | 24 Jul 2009
