Hi Maiagarri:

We may use the present when we discuss different aspects of the play and the characters, but I don �t think we can use it when we talk about the work of an author who is dead.
"Romeo & Juliet was written by Shakespeare" is the correct one.

And I loved this example: "Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in the 20th century.- It was written in the 20th century"... ,~))

It reminds me of the cases when, trying to explain some grammar, I happen to forget about the "senseful" meaning of the sentences I make up as examples. I �m lucky if my students busy with grammar omit my false step... )
