							| grammar doubt - give or give to someone
 |
							| Hi everyone. I hope you are having a nice Sunday. I m writing in the forum because I have a doubt in one question. I don t know which of the following 2 options is correct: How much money did she give Tom? How much money did she give to Tom? Can you help me? Thanks in advance, Paola | 27 Sep 2009

							| I agree with mr.dgdln. You have give + the indirect object without preposition: I gave Tom the money. But if you have the direct object first, then is when you use the preposition: I gave the money to Tom. If you can choose between the two I would choose the first one, though. | 27 Sep 2009

							| When the verb give and the direct object are together, no preposition, like this:
 She gave Tom $10.

 but:

 She gave $10 to Tom.

So, I would say the correct question is:

How much money did she give Tom?
