Dear Colleagues,
Can my students call me miss Kriszta if I am married?
But Mrs Kovacs is so formal for me.
Could anyone send me the song "Go Away big green monster, go away".

I learned in school that you can use � �Miz � � when you do not want to be called
Miss or Mrs. However, I am not able to recall the appropriate rule about this aspect of political correctness... Sorry!

The use of "Miss" for both single and married women has become very popular in the USA in the last 10-15 years (especially in the school/preschool environments). I �m not sure if it has been made "officially correct" yet, but is definately in common usage.

In the 70�s, the term "Ms" (pronounced miz) was made very popular, but many people nowadays don�t care for it--its use has taken on a bit of a confrontational reputation. |

You are correct Ladybird - Ms is used here all the time. We always use Ms if we don �t know if the person is married and in letters etc we would use Ms rather than Miss for an unmarried person. Also, many women keep their maiden names when they get married and would then use Ms rather than Mrs. |

And what about a divorced woman? Would she use Mrs or Ms with her name? Rather not Miss, I believe.

By the way this was the lesson I had this morning with my grade 9 students.
so the rule is as follows:
we use Miss with single female-Ms with both married and single female-Mrs with married female.
sO ,I think the best title for a divorced female is Ms
