							| Dear colleagues, we are supposed to use "the"  before  ORDINAL NUMERALS  So is it correct to say "He is in _____ ninth grade" without  a definite article?  Thank you for your help. |  9 Oct 2009

							| �He is in the ninth grade � is correct. To say,  �he is in a ninth grade � makes no sense in the English language...unless you were to say  �he is in a ninth grade class �, but that �s a different context, so  �the � is the article to use in this situation. |  9 Oct 2009
