The dog was too weak-hearted to swim across the river.
I wonder whether using "Weak-hearted" with subject " The dog". Thanks

We probably wouldn �t use the expression "weak-hearted" unless it was talking about a dog who was discouraged, or lacking the determination to make it. If it was physically tired, we would probably just say "The dog was too weak to swim across the river." |

I also agree and suggest one could say, "The dog �s heart was too weak [for him] to swim across the water" alternatively, but if you want to keep the subject of dog, then I would also say "The dog was too weak to swim across the river [due to a heart problem or due to his weak heart, because he had a weak heart]." |
