							| Order of Adjectives
 |
							| Dear Colleagues, One of my Ss asked the following questions:
1.If we have got both an opinion and a fact adjective when describing a noun which is the first one?
 2. How can we decide that an adj. is an opinion or a fact adj.? ex. fashionable- if sg. is fashionable for me it doesn t mean that is fashionable for others. The same thing with expensive.

Well I tried to find answers everywhere in my books but I can t think of a logical answer.Could you help me?

							| Sorry you are right. So here are the examples: A classic, elegant blue hat. -here classic  is opinion or fact?
 A nice, modern, red lamp.
 A cheap, portable, purple computer.
 A cheap, trendy, golden bracelet.

							| As far as opinion adjectives are concerned, the most subjective adjective comes first.   In my opinion elegant is more subjective than classic,  nice more subjective than modern, trendy more subjective than cheap. Portable is fact | 10 Nov 2009

							| Opinion comes first. I taught this in one of my advanced classes. You can find it in the book "Inside Out" - advanced. Think of an opinion as something personal. Varies from person to person. A fact cannot be changed. Opinions: fabulous, tasty, exquisite. Facts: caramelized, homemade, spicy. e.g A fabulous homemade cake. It can be fabulous or awful for some people, but the cake is still homemade. | 10 Nov 2009
