							| A famous place IS Niagara Falls - is correct. I don t know why the others are inverting it.
 You can easily say...

A famous place IS Niagara Falls, it is in North America.
A famous place IS Niagara Falls, people go there on their honeymoons.

I think the question had to do with "Niagara Falls" being plural. Just remember "the subject" of the sentence conditions the verb, it doesn t matter what comes afterwards. the only time you need to worry about that is with "There + to be".

							| A number of geographical areas can be seen as a singular entity even if they have a -s ending. The wilds is no place to live.  The prairies, the highlands, the suburbs... Also, it is possible to use a singular verb when you entity or the "one" sense is expressed. Results is what I want. Sis they were, and six we are; and bones is what they are now... A question of perception... but the answer to your question is A famous place IS Niagara Falls. | 27 Nov 2009

							| The  verb must agree with the subject, not with the object. So, it is A famous place (subject) IS Niagara falls. Imagine this example:
The only interesting person in the meeting is you or You are the only interesting person in the meeting, but always agreeing with the subject of the sentence.
 Take care
