I really need a good writing book that is about writing paragraphs and essays.

I believe writing and reading are very connected. Good readers will be good writers, and vice versa. I use the book series "Weaving it Together". Level 2 is especially useful for beginning compositions.

I use a writing series from Singapore called SAP. It has six levels and a lot of variety. It teaches the kids to write using numerous text types:forms, posters, essays, lists etc. Although it has a few mistakes in the text, I find it very useful and creative. I especially like the Acrostic poems. Check it out.
