							| If anybody is interested how the English teachers are paid in Russia, I can tell you now.The governement constantly say that they are going to increase the  wages for the teachers, doctors, pensioners,  but in fact, the pay rise is  very low.
I m a teacher at a high school and my salary is so low, that I m ashamed to voice it . The people  who really love their job could afford  working here. Of, course, it depends on a high school you work at. I work at the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts.
Learning English is very popular  in Russia now, people are travelling a lot and the parents have fully realized  that thier children should learn English not to feel silly and awkward abroad. In addition,  a good command of English  gives  a chance to get a well paid job abroad. So the English teachers can earn much money by private lessons. As to me, I don t have time and motivations to do this, but I know  an English lesson awerage earning is approximately 50-60 USD and even more. It depends on the teacher s qualifications.  At the same time the salaries of  the English teachers at a secondry school were encreased up to 1500 USD two years ago! (To the regret of the other subjects teachers !) To get this money you should work very HARD! But in any way, I heard it s difficult to find  a job at school now.
The native English teachers have a huge prestige with parents and they are ready to pay any money to a native speaker. There are a lot of English schools (we call them English courses) and the administrations in the first place try to invite native speakers to teach English . It must be admitted that it s very useful. However, some years ago I observed  British youngsters who were employed by one of the Moscow private schools and it was evident that they did have nothing in common with a job of a teacher.
