							| some vs any? Grammar question
 |
							| Dear
fellow teachers, I
have a grammar question which I m not sure about in the following
context: Task:
Complete the sentences with some,
any,
no,
every.
 Sentence:
Is there _______ coffee left in the
coffee-maker? Im late for work and I have _______ time to make
_______ more.
 Key
in ws: any, no, some
 My
question is: Can I also say ...I m late for work and I have no
time to make any more coffee. ? I think any
sounds better than some, but would it be correct? If yes, why? Thanks
for your help! P.S.
The task is from a worksheet by mpotb
(http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=225189#this)
which is great! :-) Thanks again for sharing! | 25 Jan 2010

							| I have no time to make any more coffee. I don t like the way "any" sounds in this sentence but I can t explain why.   I have no time to make some more.- this sounds better to me.     I have no time to make more (coffee).  - this could also be a possibility | 25 Jan 2010

							| I have no time to make any more coffee.
maybe it sounds better because we have negative meaning ... no time...

							| We generally use "any" in negative sentences. This was discusses about a week ago.   Bruce | 26 Jan 2010
