							| Creepy & Spooky
 |
							| Hi!  can anybody tell me the difference between these two words? I ve read that if something is just spooky, it can t hurt you but, if it s creepy it s dangerous. Is this correct?  Thank you,  Olga | 6 Feb 2010

							| No, not true.
 Spooky is something eerie...

Creepy is something disquieting or very strange... "a creepy coincidence" - a very strange and somewhat uneasy coincidence...

							| "Spook" is another word for ghost, so "spooky" is ghost-like, or causing the reaction a ghost would cause.   Bruce | 7 Feb 2010

							| I agree with yanogator about "spooky." I would add that "creepy" is used when something makes your skin crawl, like insects "creeping" over you.  If a person is creepy, you don t feel comfortable around him/her, because your skin feels strange in reaction to them, because of how they stare, or dress, or smell, or say inappropriate or odd things, etc...  It s often used as a synonym for "strange" or "weird" when you re mentally uncomfortable around someone or someplace. | 7 Feb 2010

							| So, when talking about supernatural phenomena, would you say that "creepy" is more psychologically terrifying than "spooky"? Has it something to do with that? | 7 Feb 2010
