							| song for unit on nationalities/postcards/mediterranean
 |
							| Hi everyone, I am working on a unit on nationalities (actually the mediterranean but I widened it a bit). My postcard project was part of this (thanks again to all who participated!) We will have a short holiday before we finish the unit and I would like to do a song for the last lesson before the holiday. It would be great if the lyrics somehow connect to the subject (postcards, travel, countries etc.). It needs to be something 5th graders (10-11 yrs old) can connect to... I thought of yellow submarine but it is a bit cliche, no? Any ideas will be appreciated! | 20 Feb 2010

							| Hi Isabel, I love the animaniacs song! I actually brought that video to start the unit with but the DVD didn t work :( I am looking for a song with actual lyrics to work on vocabulary... Victoria, For some reason the link to the british council didn t work so i couldn t listen to the song but most of the BC songs are a little too childish for my class (they like to think of themselves as teenagers ;) I am hoping to find something kids actually listen to nowadays... I must be geting old since all I can think of are songs like mr. postman or sealed with a kiss , hardly the kind of song they connect to... Does anyone have another idea? | 20 Feb 2010

Just got your postcard, thanks, I ll take to my kids next Monday. I know they will be very glad.

I think I can get a very easy song, but now I can t stay longer; I ll look for it in the afternoon.

							| HEY...   HOW ABOUT THIS SONG....
He s got the whole world in his hands    HOPE ITS FUN...ENJOY   AND HERE ARE THE LYRICS
Hes got the whole world in His hands,Hes got the whole world in His hands,
Hes got the whole world in His hands,
Hes got the whole world in His hands.

Hes got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
Hes got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
Hes got my brothers and my sisters in His hands,
Hes got the whole world in His hands.

Hes got the sun and the rain in His hands,

Hes got you and hes got me in His hands,
Hes got the whole world in His hands.

Hes got everybody here in His hands,
Hes got everybody there in His hands,
Hes got everybody everywhere in His hands,
Hes got the whole world in His hands.

							| I actually really like the song he s got the whole world in his hands but I tend to stay away from anything too religious in my classes (our part of the world has got enough problems due to religions.. ). The kids would probably be OK with it but I m not sure all the parents of the predominantly jewish group would appreciate Christian gospel. (even though in the end it s the same god...)   I know, I m not easily pleased if anyone has another suggestion, something more contemporary maybe?   ps. Linda, Happy to hear the card arrived! | 20 Feb 2010

							| Martina, My own kids (at home, the ones who call me mom) actually tried to learn this one by heart! I love it! Victoria, Is it possible to download and burn British council songs to disc? This specific one isn t so appropriate for me but some of the beginners stuff might be good for my younger students. I have no access to computers in the school so I wonder if they are downloadable? | 20 Feb 2010
