what is a "tilt plate"?

Dear friends,
I �m translating an instruction of some photographic machine and I have no idea what a TILT PLATE is. I googled it and found some pictures of it but they didn �t help me at all. I know it �s a difficult specialized word but maybe someone could explain what it is or what it is used for? Or maybe some Polish teacher know the Polish translation?

A tilt plate is a flat surface that something like a camera can be attached to for the purpose of changing the angle or tilt of it. The flat surface of a camera tripod would also be a tilt plate because you can adjust the angle.
