you and I are used when they are subjects in the sentences and you and me when they are objects.
for example You and I are going to the party
you can make this into separate sentences : you are going to the party. I am going to the party.
you and me are going to the party : you are going to the party. me am going to the party.
see how this is incorrect?
as objects
WRONG: �Would you explain that to John and I?� WRONG: �Would you explain that to I?�
RIGHT: �Would you explain that to John and me?�
RIGHT: �Would you explain that to me?�

Use each one in two sentences eg Are you going? Am I going?
Are you going? Am me going?
Which sounds right? The you and I sounds right!!

when you say "you and I" you �re using them as subjects, meaning "we" because you are included in what you are going to say... so, they must go at the benginning of the sentence and followed by a verb.
eg: "YOU AND I have to talk about this" = "WE have to talk about this"
whereas when you say "you and me", you are using them as object pronouns, meaning "us"... and they must go at the end of the sentence.
eg: "the story is about YOU AND ME" = "the story is about US"
Hope this is clear enough...
