							| Infinitive functions in the sentence
 |
							| Hello Everybody! I hope you will help me to find the answers to the following problem:
Help me to define the function of the infinitive in the following sentences:
 1. Mary suggested eggs and bacon, which were easy to cook.
 2. There are many modern marvels to match the wonders of the ancient world.
 3. It s still too early to speak about the officiency of this method.
 4. It often happens that things turn out to be different from what they at first appear to be.

Thanks in advance to all of you!

							| I think that since the first three sentences include the linking verb to be, the infinitive functions as the predicative whereas in the fourth sentence it functions as the object of the verb.
 Hope this helps!

Happy to see u again. the second one: there is a purpose, it answers why. the third one: "too adjective to verb" is a structure E.g. It is too cold to stay here. The last one: some verbs take "infinitive with to" like "appear". E.g. It began to rain.   I hope it would be useful... | 2 May 2010
