							| Where are you from?
 |
							| I have a question of my own. Last lesson, one of my beginners asked me whether it would be correct to ask: From where are you? Now, I know that Where are you from? is used in all of our students books, but somehow I am not sure how to answer his question. Can somebody help? I have heard From where are you?, but it seems so German to me. xx | 23 Nov 2008

							| As far as I now, question words go at the very beginning and prepositions at the end   Examples:   Where are you from?   Who do you live with?   Where are you going to? | 23 Nov 2008

							| Hi,

I understand both uses are grammatically correct, but we use the prep at the end in informal language, that is, spoken language.

Anyway, bear in mind you cannot use a prep before who. You have to use whom, instead.

							| From where are you? is correct but nobody besides foreigners use it. In spanish the prpeositions goes at the begining, thats why spanish learners wil do it.
The native speakers on the other hand will say Where are you from? with the proposition at the end.
Who do you work for? or For who do you work? etc... | 23 Nov 2008
