							| Techer student - observation - expression
 |
							| Hello to everyone from sunny Sweden.   Can you help me with an expression, please?   What is the appropriate expression in English for "observe the lessons"? I mean when a teacher/ teacher student participates in lessons in reguard to observe the lessons, teacher s work/students work to gain experience. In swedish we say "auskultera".   Thank you very much in advance.   Have a nice day. Y. | 17 Jun 2010

							| Maybe you are referring to "student-teaching"..  A student-teacher observes classes as part of his/her teaching training. Lets see what the rest of the people say! Enjoy your sunny day! Carolina | 17 Jun 2010

							| Hi, the translation I got is, "sit in on a class as a student teacher".  So to observe a teachers class / lesson would be correct. Enjoy. | 17 Jun 2010

							| When I was working toward CELTA, we called that "lesson observation".

							| Hi yanroko1,
If the student-teacher only observes a lesson delivered by another teacher, and take notes about what happens around: teacher s instructions and demonstrations, and students reactions. It is called - as we studied it - "Passive Observation | Passive Observer"

If the student-teacher plans, delivers the lesson and takes notes during the lesson it would be "Active Observation | Active Observer"

There is another type where the student-teacher prepares the lesson plan and another teacher will deliver it for the student-teacher to take notes. However, I can t remember what it is called.

							| I should also say that CPD here in the Uk calls for us to have obs all of the time. So, students, teachers, whatever, whoever observing would still be a lesson observation. Check Stephen Reece and Ian Walker for a British bible on teaching and learning. | 17 Jun 2010
