							| I need your help!
 |
							| Hi there! Please have a look at the following song and tell me what for you would use it to teach and at what level.
 Thanks in advance.
I know I may be wishingOn a world
 That may never be
 But I`ll keep on wishing

 No matter how hopeless
 Or foolish
 It may seem
 I`ll keep on wishing

I`ll toss my coins in the fountain
Look for clovers in grassy lawns
Search for shooting stars in the night
Cross my fingers and dream on

I know I may be dreaming
 Of a world
 Far from present day reality
 But I`ll keep on dreaming

 No matter how unrealistic
 Or naive
 It may seem
 Always keep dreaming

And toss your coins in the fountain
Look for clovers in grassy lawns
Search for shooting stars in the night
Cross your fingers and dream on

 We must always be thinking
 Of the world
As a place of infinite possibilities
 And always keep thinking

 No matter how hopeless
 Or foolish
 It may seem
 Always keep thinking

And toss our coins in the fountain
Look for clovers in grassy lawns
Search for shooting stars in the night
Cross our fingers and dream on

 I`ll keep on wishing
 We must always keep dreaming
 Of a world
 With equality and justice
 Thinking
 There could be a world
 Without poverty and sickness
 Wishing
 Of a world
 Without hunger and homelessness
 Dreaming
 Of a world
Where all people live in peace
 Dreaming
 Of a world
 Dreaming
 On a world

							| Hi   ... as for grammar you could use it to teach modals (may, could, must), imperative or future tense (maybe level 5 - 9th form).   Hugs Manuela | 24 Jun 2010

							| I think most songs are flexible enough to let you work with many aspects. The topics that teresapr mentioned are great. You can also work with dreams for their future, and then link it with the grammar you need to express wishes (I wish I could become a ...), or even plans (going to). When I work with songs, I like linking the grammar to a topic, and/or viceversa, so it doesn t feel disconnected, out of the blue or forced.
For lower levels you can work with prepositions, present simple, sounds (ng ending)... For a higher level class you can work with -ing forms: present participle verbs (wishing, thinking, dreaming) vs present participle adjectives (shooting star); or suffixes and/or word transformation (hopeless, foolish, grassy for adjectives; homelessness, sickness, possibilities, equality, reality for nouns) (reality, unrealistic) I also think the level you work with song with will be determined by the speed with which the lyrics are sung and the clarity of the singer s voice... sometimes complex lyrics are slow and so easy to work with, while if simple lyrics are fast, it makes it really difficult for students to understand and for teachers to develop a lesson. I don t know this song, so that will be up to you! I hope this helps! Cheers | 24 Jun 2010

							| "must be thinking" is present continuous passive in combination with a modal.
If you teach students who want to know what that is and how to use it, you should probably teach it to 14+
