							| What time is it ?
 |
							| Hi,   As you know there are two ways to say the time : 1- The Houre + the Minutes         or    The Minutes to - past the Hour   e.g. seven fifteen                                     e.g. quarter past -to seven.       Which one is more common in use ???         Thanks in advance :) | 16 Oct 2010

							| In the USA is more common to say 7: 45, however in British English, they use a quarter past seven. | 16 Oct 2010

							| Be careful with "to" and "past" (You used them together). A quarter to seven (or a quarter till seven) is 6:45. A quarter past (not past to) seven is 7:15. Also, in the US, we usually say "after" rather than "past". It s a quarter after 5 for 5:15. We usually don t say "half past five". We d say five thirty instead.   Bruce | 16 Oct 2010

							| Well, in California we always said a quarter past 5 and not after. Or a quarter to 5.

							| I really prefer to say
It s a quarter past eight 8.15 or it s a quarter to eight 7.45, but some of my colleagues say it s old fashioned, and they prefer saying:it s eight fifteen or seven forty five | 16 Oct 2010

							| I think with more digital timepieces it is easier to just read whatever is on the face of the watch. cell phone, or clock, thus explaining why quarter past is "old fashioned". | 17 Oct 2010
