I just woke up and found out I am the winner of the Word of the Day. First of all my apologies for posting late, but it is my son �s birthday today and we celebrated last night, which means it was very hard to get up this morning.
The word of the day is
chicanery
You know the rules of the competition. Don�t look it up, don�t google it, and if you know what it means, either keep your knowledge to yourself or join in the creative, crazy definition game forgetting the real meaning of the word. The rule is that the winner is declared at midnight Spanish time.

Chicanery
Chic= fashionable, elegant, beautifully turned out
anery= short for canary or budgie
Chicanery= a beautiful french bird!
Ahem... i meant canary... of course... mumble mumble mumble |

Hey, I actually get to go first for a change!
Here �s my "daffynition":
chi - Greek letter X
cane - a kind of plant from which we derive sucrose, or table sugar
ery - a place where something happens
So my "daffynition" is "a place to wipe out sugar, e.g., a gymnasium or a dietitian �s office"
And I �ve indulged myself in a little chicanery here!  |

Well it seems you guys beat me to it....
My guesses were basically the same as Frank �s and Moody-Moody �s..
Geez... what am I gonna say now... Oh i know...
 ....Chi: a chinese dragon ( in mythology).... and
Canery: spelt wrongly: Canary.... for The Canary Islands...
so.... the dragon that went to the canary islands.....  |

Well Dr. Finkleheimer is at it again. After not garnering the fame, fortune and recognition he so desperately craves for his work on snow cloning, he decided to work for the KFC corporation in their most ambitious endeavor yet. After securing DNA from actor extrodinaire Sean Connery, he grafted the DNA with that of the common chicken, and yep you guessed it, he got chicanery.. a delicate yet sophisticated tasting chicken with a hint of danger. |

chicanery means to talk, as in gossiping. It comes from the french, chicaner, which means to whisper in class. An example would be when my students aren �t listening to me in French class, and I tell them sternly, arretes de chicaner! and they go, huh? What �s that mean in English? |

"Chicanery"
It is, of course, a liaison of two words "Chic" and "Canery".
"Chic" = suave, sophisticated, elegant.
"Canery" = the specific room where the punishment of caning occurs. (Caning = the application of a bamboo cane, with force, to the fundament of a schoolboy). This practice is now banned in most education establishments.
"Chicanery" = an extremely sumptious, beautifully decorated, modern, Headmaster �s Study.
