Hi Everyone,
___________ the late 1980s in Germany there were tremendous changes. (Cutting Edge Upper Intermediate)
My student wrote "in" but the answer given was "during". Is "in" wrong?
"During" sounds better, but obviously that �s no help to my student!
If I think up my own example: "They became famous in the late seventies" that would be right (and "during" would too!). Ok, now as I write this it �s becoming a bit clearer - the time frame is shorter for "in", that it happened at a certain time or in a short space of time, and that with regards to the changes in Germany they were happening over a period of time.
What do you think?

"In" is correct as well.
