							| turrón blando
 |
							| Hello dear teachers, does anybody know how to translate turrón blando (a paste made of roasted almonds with honey), which is typical of Spain at Christmas. It ´s because I want to give my students a delicious easy recipe and I would like to use an English term. Thanks in advance Yolanda  | 17 Dec 2010

							| Hello!! Yesterday I had to look it up in the dictionary and I found "Christmas nougat" just for "turrón". I think it comes from French. I suppose that "turrón blando" should be something like "Christmas tender nougat"???   Hope it helps!!   | 17 Dec 2010

							| hi Yolanda,
In my family, we just call it "soft turron" or "hard turron". Turron ( sorry there is no accent on this computer) is something uniquely Spanish. I hold true to the belief of not Anglicizing things if there isn ´t a direct equivalent in English. For example, I will use the word "chorizo" for the Spanish sausage, and if anyone asked me what it is, I tell them: "it ´s spicy, cured sausage made in Spain".

Spanish Turron is quite different to the French nougat, so I wouldn ´t use the term nougat to describe what it is.  I would call just call it "turron" and if anyone asks, I told them it ´s"a typical Spanish Christmas candy made of almonds and honey."
