is it correct to say can you tell me what the date is?
or can you tell me what date it is? thanks in advance.... |

Hi naryana,
In my opinion both sentences are correct. They are indirect questions.
The direct question What is the date? becomes Can you tell me what the date is?
The direct question What date is it? becomes Can you tell me what date it is?
Perhaps a native speaker could tell us which direct question is more common.

I always ask, "What is the date today?" or "What is today �s date?" "Can you tell me please?"
I always use today because a date could refer to a day other than today.
