Here it �s two classes per week, each is 45 minutes long. They start in the 2d grade (kids usually are 6-7 at that time). It used to be 3-4 hours per week a decade ago with less hours for older grades. In specialised English schools some subjects are taught in English. In some places they have English in kindergarten. Class is split up into two groups when there are 28 students and 2 teachers get to teach them. Even if there are 27 students the teacher gets to teach the whole class. |

In our school (experimental primary) students start English in 3rd grade, twice 45 minutes. They mainly learn the alphabet -which is new for them- and some basic vocabulary.
In 4th grade they have English 3 times 45 minutes and they start to learn how to read.
In 5th grade again 3 times 45 minutes and the focus shifts to reading comprehension. In sixth grade they have one 90 minute class and 2 casses of 45 minutes (altogether 4 periods). It is less than in most schools in Israel but we have smaller classes to compensate...In most schools there are close to 30 kids in a class and we have groups of 15 kids... |
