							| Confusing prepositions
 |
							| Hi dear teachers I have a big doubt regarding to the use of the preposition "ON" for geographycal features.  My book says that we use on for Gulf and there is an example "On the Gulf of AQABA. But there is an exercise on the same book that says The island of Bahrain is IN the Persian Gulf. So what is correct? Thanks in advance. Have a nice day or evening depending on where you are.  | 27 Jan 2011

							| The island is physically in the gulf, so "in" is correct for an island.   On the gulf means that its shore is on the gulf.   So, in the USA, Texas is on the Gulf of Mexico, and its city of Galveston is on an island in the gulf.   I hope this helps you. Bruce | 28 Jan 2011
