 So this s fine.
 
 Until 20 years ago, smoking was considered fashionable and glamorous....
 
 Its like saying

							| Olaola is correct. You can say "Until 20 years ago, smoking was considered fashionable and glamorous."   Linda, your suggestions are the opposite.  I guess you are right, of course. Smoking has been being banned slowly in my country, so I didn �t realize the sentence that way. A few years ago, here, smoking everywhere was quite normal, so I didn �t understand it clearly.
 
 Thanks for calling my attention to that point, otherwise I would be convinced that my sentence was right.
