							| Hi, Lapaoiza! The correct option is: "What burned down?"   There is no need for "did" unless it were an interrogative sentence: Did the car burn down?   Cheers! | 30 May 2011

							| What Burned down?
verb to do " Do or did" is only used for yes/no question ( the answer could be yes or no).

Did you do that? Do I know you?

							| I agree that we don t use "did", but also a car doesn t "burn down" - it burns or burns up. A house or other building burns down.   Bruce | 30 May 2011

							| Dear Paola,
This is a subject question. In subject questions beginning with what/who there is no change in word order- it is the same as in a positive statement:

What burned down?  A car burned down. (subject)
Who saw you?  John saw me. (S)

In object questions, however, the word order changes and it is: Auxiliary verb+ subject+ verb:

What did you buy?  I bought a book.  (object)
Who did you see at the party?  I saw John. (O)

 I hope this will help.
 Cheers.
