Interestingly enough, Holly, when the invaluable Merriam-Webster �s Dictionary of English Usage discusses a particular usage of �point of view � (for those "who bother with it at all"), they conclude that "...what needs to be avoided is not the construction but overreliance on it." Just as you said and nothing to do with �wrongness�.
