Do you guys think is it possible to teach someone who has a very good understanding of English, but when it comes to writing and speaking he mixes tenses. The thing is that he does not want to nor have the time to actually go through the whole process of a regular class. You can definitely understand what he says. He does want to improve his speaking, but he is a lot more interested in improving his writing, his grammar.

 

Any suggestions??

As his comprehension skills are good, you can either start from a movie he likes or written topics he is interested in. Then, you could prepare some comprehension questions about the movie/the text and teach him grammar and writing by using that material. If he wants to improve his English because he needs it in his job, start from situations he meets every day at work and use all sentences you come across to explain grammar to him.

 

Some years ago I used a movie to teach German to intermediate adult students and they loved it. Of course, this means a lot of extra work for you at home! Luckly, there are some good worksheets about films in this site too!! If you use them, you will spare time!
