							| HOW MUCH/ HOW MANY?
 |
							| Hi dear teachers,                            Could you please help me with these sentences:   1- The Japanese eat 25.000 tons of fish a year.   2- There are a thousand metres in a kilometre.    Im a bit confused; Are the following questions right?:   1- How much fish does the Japanese eat? 2- How much metres are there in a kilometre? or is it How many metres are there in a kilometre?   Thanks a lot in advance | 24 Oct 2011

							| Dear Pfreites, In English you have to divide quantities into countables (you can count every item) and uncountables (liquids as milk, water... air... flour...) And when you want to ask about the amount of something, you use how many if you want to know the number available of something (birds, dogs, girls, boys, T-shirts, cups...)  And you use how much if you want to know the quantity of something you can t count (milk, water...) Careful: "There is some milk in the fridge." but "There are 3 bottles of milk in the fridge. - I can count the bottles = "There are 3 bottles" - And, actually, when you answer a question "How much..." - you mesuremesure the amount in meters, kilos, cups, bottles... Hope it helps ;o)) | 25 Oct 2011
