							| correcting some sentences
 |
							| Hello, could you please help me correct some sentences? Are they correct?
I looked for my friend at the party but she didn t go (to go).
She s not coming to work because she fell (to fall) of her bike this morning.
We think the window has broken (to break) during the party.
The heavy rain in 1999 lead (to lead) severe floods.

Thanks in advance for your help!
 Have a nice day!

							| I looked for my friend at the party but she hadn t gone. (before the past) She s not coming to work because she fell off her bike this morning. We think the window was broken during the party. (passive) The heavy rain in 1999 led to severe floods.   Bruce | 14 Nov 2011

							| Instead of using to go , I think it is much better to use to come and say  I looked for my friend at the party but she hadn t come. | 14 Nov 2011

							| - I looked for my friend at the party but she was gone/ had gone. (meaning had left) - She s not coming to work because she had fallen/ has fallen off her bike this morning. (not coming to work is the result of the activity in bold) - We think the window had been broken during the party. (we haven t witnessed, it happened before we noticed)   On sentence 4 I agree with yanogator (Bruce), because we have a specific time in the past - 1999, and the past simple of LEAD is LED. | 14 Nov 2011

							| Well, Evgenija, I m glad you agree with me on sentence 4, but you seem to be missing the fact that 2 and 3 are also specific times in the past - this morning and during the party (which was in the past), so both of them should be simple past (past passive for #3) as well.   On sentence 1, I didn t think about the fact that the original assignment hadn t been negative, so I definitely agree with you. I would choose "had gone", but "was gone" also works.   Bruce | 15 Nov 2011
