I have a doubt... I don �t understand when I have to use "do" in some questions. Could someone explain it to me? For example, which one is correct?: - How families celebrate Thanksgiving? - How do the families celebrate Thanksgiving? - What do the families do in Thanksgiving? - What the families do in Thanksgiving? And another doubt is... IN/ON Thanksgiving/ Halloween / Christmas...? I mean, what is the correct one? "In thanksgiving" or "on thanksgiving" Thank you very much. |

Think of the way �do� is used in questions;
Affirmative: Families celebrate Thanksgiving.
Question: Do families celebrate Thanksgiving?
Now ask �How?�
How do families celebrate Thanksgiving?
What do families do at Christmas? (=Christmas season ; several days)
What do families do on Christmas Day? (25th December)
What do families do at Halloween? (includes the days of preparation)
What do families do on Halloween night? (31st October)

I understand your confusion, because it is possible to find sentence like this:
What the families do in Thanksgiving?
in an English text!
And that is when the sentence is used in an complex sentece such as:
He asked, what the families do in Thanksgiving.
So, when the question stands by itself, it is with the operator do and in a complex sentence it is without.
