 In a shop I buy some food or drink and the shop assistant asks:
 
 - Would you like to take it in a bag or IN/ ON your hand?
 
 Which one is correct: IN the hand or ON the hand?
 
 Native speakers I would also appreciate your help, pls!

							| Between the two choices, "in your hand" would be correct.   Your confusion may be that we use "on hand" to indicate something is available (i.e. we have it in stock).   Liberty is right about shop keepers, they may also ask "Would you like a bag or will you just carry it out?"   Cheers, Douglas |  17 Jan 2012
